9 more baby chicks arrived last week. 3 (one rooster and 2 hens of each) Barred Rocks, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and Blue Copper Marans. Unfortunately we have one little peeper that has a leg issue. I think she got hurt in the brooder. She won’t put any weight on her one leg. I have tried […]

What am I going to do with 8 roosters? The Autumn bunch is old enough now where they are showing what sex they are. They are still a couple weeks away from laying eggs but the roosters are getting their tail feathers in so it’s obvious who is who. So with the 3 I already […]

We lost power this morning about 10 am and it was out all day. It finally came back on about 945 pm. But then it was in and out for another couple hours. Now I don’t mind losing power when there is a good reason (snow, ice, asteroid) but there was nothing. No snow, no […]

Is she lays eggs wherever she deems the perfect spot. I wondered why I was seeing nothing in the coop for days. I thought maybe she needed to get used to the Love Shack. Chickens are fickle, it doesn’t take much to throw them off their schedule. By accident I found this under a ladder […]

The Feed Store

January 9, 2022

Once we closed in the back porch we decided that it would make a great feed store. No more running in and out of the garage to get chicken feed, rabbit feed, duck feed…..you get it. Closed in the back porch, added drywall, paint and lighting then put down some flooring. Now all my cans […]

We have 2 chickens Lavender and Louie (fka Crackle) who fly out of the henitentiary and free range every day. There seems to be a bit of tension between Louie and Chip (fka Snap) so we let them be. Well we decided they needed their own coop (to be known as The Love Shack) which […]

New Chicken Saddles have arrived

The personalization on past saddles didn’t weather well so I found patches on Etsy and had them done with chicken names. Lavender, who free-ranges with Louie, will get hers soon.Yes I know I have an odd sense of humor but I think they are funny. It’s like speed dating for chickens 😊
